ARG!

apparently this has become my "complain about work" page.

my day wasn't good from the beginnning. it got better for a while, and then worse. I show up at work at 8:55, and at 8:57 I hear a page- "I need all department heads upstairs." Right, today is the day we all (meaning every store in our division) gets onto a conference call and does our "cheer."
In the middle of the conference call, there's a page that's hard to understand. I think MAYBE it's "Erik to customer service" but apparently it wasn't. I start to pick up the phone, and our Butcher Block Manager says "I can get the phone by myself, Erik." He has this condescending smile on his face that makes me want to say something snappy and sarcastic back. Dick.
"I thought maybe I heard a page for me," I say.
He mumbles something about being able to run his own department, but I'm already heading back in to listen to the conference call.

4 hours later, at around 1 P.M., Brent calls me on the redline. He says he needs to talk to me upstairs. Fine.
I walk into the upstairs office, and Brent has a strange, confused look on his face. Something's up. I sit down in one of the chairs around the store director's desk, and say "what's up?"
"Did you tell Rex (my brother) that you were going to fire [another butcher block clerk] for not doing her job?"

I'm shocked. Fire? no, I've threatened to write people up, but never threatened that anyone be fired. I've suggested, and on good reason, ONCE. and that once someone WAS fired. but I've never threatened to fire anyone, especially not to another associate.
"No!" I immediately say. "i'm shocked that anyone would even think that!"
Brent leans back in the chair, satisfied that the issue is almost resolved. "Well, [The Butcher Block Manager] told me that [The Butcher Block Clerk] told him that Rex told her you'd fire her."
In my experience, if you can say "Billy told me and Samantha told him," you need to recheck your information. That is, if you've got more than one person in the chain, you'd better doublecheck. unless the source is very reliable.

Which our butcher block isn't. talk about a rumor mill. Christ.

So I say, "No! I didn't say that at all. and even if I had--- even if I had, rex wouldn't have told anyone." which is true, he's my brother. Then, "[The butcher block manager] told you that?"
Brent has this mystified look on his face. "Yeah, he said that you were trying to run his department."
I sit back in the chair, totally totally surprised, and perhaps a little upset. What the HELL! So I say "What?" and shake my head. A fraction of a second passes and then I add, "I'm not even back there that often."
Brent says "okay." I can tell he's satisfied that the situation is resolved. I, however, am not.
"What did he say, exactly?" I ask.
"He said that one day you went back there and told him or [the assistant manager] to come out and help customers, and you needed to let him run his department."

I'm writing this NOW, and my opinion is basically a sneer and an "eh. how stupid and petty," but then I was surprised and bugged.

Well really what it is, Brent, is that Erik is tryin' to run my department.

Well, that's great. Just great.

"What?" I say
"Yeah," Brent says, "Which I don't understand, that's exactly what I would have done, too."
"I don't get it. why would he think I was trying to run his department? I was just trying to help."
Brent nods. I was just doing my job, and we both know it. "I'm going to go ask [the butcher block clerk] what was said," Brent says.

SO APPARENTLY, Rex had told [the butcher block clerk] that I could fire them both if they didn't do their jobs. He wasn't exactly talking to her, he was talking to a customer, and they were all joking around. That's what she had told [the butcher block manager,] but that's NOT what he had told Brent.

What the hell? the stupid guy is mad that I was trying to HELP his customers? Maybe the stupid position the just gave me is meaningless, then. Maybe being a Person-In-Charge is a piece of shit title not worth anything, who knows? He's mad because I asked either him or the Assistant to help customers? They were cutting in the backroom, obviously he had NO idea what was going on, or the line wouldn't have built up to SEVEN deep.

People are so, SO so stupid. and this guy? He's so shovanistic and condescending it's amazing. sometimes I hate my job.

And what I REALLY hate about this albertsons, and maybe ALL jobs- things get so totally blown out of proportion that it's ridiculous. My brother put in his two weeks notice because he was tired of the atmosphere in the block. the supervisor does a SUPERB job, let me tell ya. puts out expired product (well, she tries)... Always wants to blame others...

It's not only the block, though. The block is the worst...

Oh yeah. I'm definitely getting in contact with Sammie from Associate Relations. she needs a call.

I'm not sure I care if you're reading this, Bart.
