I came across a pro-american article where someone is bitching about his "rights" by complaining that we've renamed "Christmas Break" to Winter break and the fact that we can no longer say merry christmas. What? Unless I had missed a new amendment to the constitution, I can still say Merry Christmas, can't I? Hell, I can say pretty much whatever I want- which, I think, was actually the point of the commentary.
I think what the writer was trying to get across is that we should be able to say anything we want in this country. But we can- No one ever told me I couldn't say merry christmas, least of all the government.

Will we still be the Country of choice and still be America if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in America because it is the Country of Choice??????   Think about it . . . All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS?   I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas.   Now it has to be Season's Greetings.   It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break.   Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday?

What the hell??? you're complaining because they don't call winter break christmas break anymore??? wow. So found your own Calendar Company- is that the issue? your calendar doesn't say Christmas Break anymore? what a thing to complain about. And then- do something about "your rights?" Have you READ our constitution recently? jesus. it's got plenty about your rights. First amendment? can't say merry christmas? is that a contradiction? damn.

This says it all! This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he?

Before we start the editorial- because what you've previously read wasn't it- I'd like to say that the editorial writer DID do quite a job, quite a job looking like a hypocritical, racist jackass.

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT.    I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought   freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese,   Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you w ish to become part of our society, learn the language! "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes offends you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American   freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

E PLURBIS UNIM. Does ANYONE even REMOTELY remember this phrase? a phrase found- along with "In God we Trust"- on a good amount of american money? it's latin, and it means "from many comes one." America, the country, is made up of LOTS of people. EVERYONE adds to the whole. what you seem to be saying by "IMMIGRANTS MUST ADAPT" is clear- let's go ahead and make everyone the same, screw diversity. what next, number tatoos on our skulls? skin dye so we all look the same?
To say that a phrase that came from christian ideals, made by CHRISTIANS, isn't christian, confuses me. is the bible a christian book? oh, it is? well, jeez. then I guess "Our Father, who art in Heaven" is a christian phrase, too, isn't it? Man, that must make "In God we Trust" a christian phrase.
Now, I'm NOT saying that In God We Trust is a BAD saying- no, it isn't. Not everyone does trust in god, but it's probably a good saying. but to say it isn't christian....

"our land, our country, our lifestyle." who, exactly, are you refering to? is the "our" you're talking about a small, selective group of racists who want everyone to conform to their small neighborhood? should we set up machine gun towers at the mexican border to keep out the helpless mexicans? I mean, they are different- with different ideas- they aren't "us." hell, why bother getting down to the "feel free to excercies your right to leave part," and kill them on sight?
Over and over, I see "our" this and "our" that- but I'm just not seeing the "we" that our is refering to. "our schools." the schools that aren't racially accepting, that don't teach multiple languages because damn, why should we worry about trying to communicate with the rest of the world? we're superior, so they should fucking learn OUR language, right? man, between breakfast and lunch, I somehow forgot that I was a superior american and didn't EVER need to go out of my way for ANY other human being, especially if they aren't american or if they are an american.

"This idea of america being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty  and our national identity."
Wow, I REALLY missed something here- because I thought america was a multicultural community. people came here to flee opression, not enforce it. who wrote this, a member of the KKK? let's shoot all the catholics, blacks, and definitely mexicans next.

and the politically correct crowd complaining about our patriotism offending others? What were the politically correct people complaining about? Is stopping people on the highway, tearing them out of their cars, pistol-whipping them across the back of their skulls and calling them terrorists "patriotic-" JUST because they look like they could have come from the middle east? Does anyone remember WWII? does anyone remember throwing all the Japanese-Americans in camps? oh, you don't? rather forget that part of our nasty history? No, seriously- screw the past. let's throw all the Indians, Pakistanis, Kuwaitis, shit, it doesn't matter- let's throw them ALL in camps, because they are definitely terrorists.

Is this what you were refering to when you mentioned patriotism? because I remember watching the news, seeing the florida police officers massively overreact to the drivers on the highway who COULD have been terrorists.
DOn't get me wrong- blowing up buildings and killing americans is VERY bad news- but try to remember that not all those americans were "your" kind of americans. some of them may have been immigrants, immigrants who should expect some respect.

I understand that the article wasn't that harsh- but what's the next step? it goes both ways- how hard is it to do something for someone instead of worrying about yourself so much? I'm not saying one group should totally change for the other, some midline, the seeming impossible goal of compromise, needs to be reached.

Went swimming at Erin's for a good portion of the day after the interview, and my eyes are totally feeling it now.
hopefullymaybe I'll go down to the river tommorow-- we'll see.

I'm sure i had something scathing and remarkable to say, but I can't think of it if I did.

Yeah, I know I hadn't posted in a long time. Internet was gone, for a month and a half or something... still is, more or less. I got a new computer for my birthday- that's an upside- and I've written like 100 pages or something of my book. other than that, not much has changed.

for an update. finally.

SO Bush's little "Amendment" to illegalize gay marriages failed in congress the other day. Can't say as I'm dissapointed, seeing that an AMENDMENT shouldn't TAKE AWAY rights.
Does it really offend you so much, Mr. President, that you have to attempt to fetter a huge number of Americans? since your "Amendment" to limit marriage rights has failed, what are you going to do now? try to pass a bill supporting "seperate but equal" restrooms?
For a country that not only advocates Seperation of Church and State, but a constitution that states that freedom is its ultimate goal, our current government, or our president, has been pushing ideas, this being the one most on my mind, that DO NOT fit into the idea of a free, equal, and seperated country.
for god's sakes! you want to amend the constitution! The constitution should only be amended if we find a problem in it. Are you saying that freedom to do as one pleases is a problem?
This, and the fact that some conservative group said something along the lines of "well, at least we know now who is against conventional marriages." No, you don't. this is a simple problem of logic- Just because someone didn't support your right-reducing "amendment," it doesn't mean they don't support "conventional" marriage. I didn't like the bill, but I'm not going to go marry a guy.
Let's spell it out, in simpler terms.
"I like the color blue."
does this therefore mean that I don't like any other color? No, it simply means that I LIKE the color blue.
Likewise, "I don't support your amendment" doesn't mean "I don't support conventional marriages." People can support conventional marriages, and be CONVENTIONALLY married, and still NOT support the damned AMENDMENT.
But hey, I still really like the idea of seperate restrooms. lets reinstate Jim Crow and the grandfather clause, lets take away women's right to vote, hell- lets throw away the democracy and go back to some fuedal system. that sounds like a great idea to me.
